payaso programming

Hey! Thanks for reading! Just a reminder that I wrote this some years ago, and may have much more complicated feelings about this topic than I did when I wrote it. Happy to elaborate, feel free to reach out to me! 😄
About a year into properly learning how to program computers, I was having the most fun I'd had in years. Everything was new, deep, and delicious. Dota players often refer to that stage in playing as the "discovery phase": the joy that comes from learning the rules of the game, before you have to fuss with perfecting your technique.
Later though, especially after I hit industry, I began by doubting myself on everything. I think this is also commonly referred to as analysis paralysis? This is also almost certainly exacerbated (or an extension of) my depression.
Luckily, things have picked up considerably and I've found some groove again, and particularly enjoyed my efforts with ghostlight. A lot of it had to do working in a more central role with excellent people on the ill-fated Sup.
Because I can, here are some clowney engineering things I've done, often in work environments.

I think this next one is my favorite, since this was a pretty nontrivial feature:

I'm almost ashamed of this next one. Almost. Love that my CTO was jovial about it:

Note that, while the joke is good and well-loved, it's also a bit of a subtle nod of including that joke template everywhere. It's all over Twitter. Like, everywhere. I love it. I was going to write an RTS like StarCraft with 3 armies but instead of Terran, Protoss, and Zerg I was going to make it the Hopes, the Jobs, and Cashes.
